Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.26.1.10.996 ĪV: avast! antivirus *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated)
Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks very much! The big issue is that Google tends to redirect me to ad sites when I click on search results. I can change the permissions in my registry, but I haven't tried to delete anything because I'm afraid to. So here's where I'm at now: I can read one of my two external hard drives. I downloaded System Mechanic 8 with a crack from TPB (from a trusted member this time!). I downloaded rrt.exe from here:, ran it, restarted, and still couldn't access my registry. I went into Registry Editor as advised and tried to delete a certain registry item, but I was told that I didn't have sufficient priviledges, even though I was signed in as an admin. I looked the problem up online, and Windows Support recommended that I try to delete some things from the registry. I uninstalled all the drivers, and restarted my computer, to no effect.
I went into Device Manager and looked at the USB controllers, and I got a "code 10" on my "USB mass storage device". I was still having trouble accessing my external hard drives. I ran an AVAST antivirus scan, it found a worm in the File Scavenger program (could have been the keygen) and also something in my registry I think (H_KEY something). These occurred when my computer was idle and IE was closed. After installing File Scavenger, I started getting multiple popups from Internet Explorer sending me to a site called quizrocket.
The torrent was not from a trusted member (oops). I downloaded a torrent from TPB that contained "File Scavenger" to see if I could recover my data. My problems started when I was unable to detect my external hard drives (I have 2).
